Graduation Explosion Box

For our grandson’s graduation gift I made this explosion box.  I obtained the instructions for the box from the Glitter Adventure blog.  For the top I cut the sides so it would look more like graduation cap.  I had a great time making this box making sure not to over embellish since it was for our grandson.  The box was also suppose to hold what every graduate going to college is hoping for…a check.  I made a button from Cherry Cobbler card stock and covered it with Crystal Effect and let it dry overnight.  I then took wire to make the holder for the envelope.  I used a Sharpie marker to wrap the wire around it to make the loops.  All the sentiments were printed from My Digital Studio.  I downloaded pictures from his FB page to include in the pockets of the second layer.  The outer layer has pockets for other momentos or photos.  I decorated each layer before assembling.  Once all the layers were decorated I adhered the box.  I photographed each layer below.

Happy Birthday Cake Slice Box

Yesterday was my hubby’s birthday and I made him a cake slice box.  I put photos of  me and our fur babies inside the box wishing him a happy birthday.  The challenge was in trying to decorate the box in a masculine way.  I was inspired by The Paper Players Color Challenge – Cherry Cobbler, Not Quite Navy and Early Espresso.  These colors are so rich together and masculine.  I am also submitting my cake slice to Piece ‘O Cake Paper Craft Planet 3D challenge.

I made my cake box from Early Espresso  card stock then covered with DSP printed from My Digital Studio – Cherry Cobbler polka dot and Not Quite Navy Villa DSP.   I trimmed a 1-1/4″ strip of Early Espresso with the Eyelet Border punch and adhered to the lid.  I also used the retired Take a Spin stamp set , Striped Early Espresso ribbon and Birthday Banner to decorate the top.  I couldn’t resist and added clear rhinestones to the banner and the sides of the box.  I also used an Antique brad for the back.

Shadow Box Card for Mom

This week’s challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is a shadow box technique challenge.  There are a couple of ways to create these cards and the possibilities are endless for both.  See below for video tutorials on both shadow box techniques.

I wanted to create a card that would open like a gift so I went with the second technique.  I had a great time making my mother’s day card.  I have a printer that will print to the edge of the paper so I printed my DSP using My Digital Studio.  I used the Elegant Soiree digital DSP and printed on both sides of the paper.  I did use the rubber stamp set Nature Walk for the images and used a blender pen with Marina Mist classic ink pad to color the flowers on the image.  The layers for the inside of my card were created with Sizzix dies and SU punches.  The sentiments are from the retired stamp sets Vintage Labels and Fancy Flexible Phrases.  Hop on over and get inspired by our very talented design team and show us your shadow box technique.

Paris in the Spring

Do you ever get an idea for a project you can’t get out of your head and you have to create it?  Well this happened with an idea to make an Eiffel Tower shaped box using the image from the Artistic Etchings digital stamp set because then I can make it whatever size I like.  I finally decided to create the box for this week’s challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments Color Splash Challenge.  The colors are Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz.  These colors together remind me of spring.

I created the front of the box on My Digital Studio.  I used the Blushing Bride polka dot background and enlarged the Eiffel Tower and colored it Pear Pizzaz.  I then created an outline template of the tower and cut it out.  I made the front and bottom of the box from chip board then adhered the Eiffel Tower image/DSP on the front and trimmed any uneven edges.  The bottom of the box is slightly smaller so the top can fit over the sides from the bottom.  The sides of the box are made from Very Vanilla CS.  I also finished the inside with Very Vanilla CS and grosgrain ribbon.  I plan on creating a tutorial for this box.  As soon as complete it I’ll post it.

For the card I stamped the tower in Versamark and Pear Pizzazz ink then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The card also features Poppy Parade DSP from the In Color  Hostess Level One paper pack.  I embellished the box and the card with buttons created with the Sizzlit Buttons #5 die.  I also embellished with loads of pearls.  I hope these colors inspire you to create a project for spring.

Spring Vintage Hearts

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a hearts theme challenge.  Hearts are a wonderful shape because they’re not just for Valentine’s day.  They fit right it for birthdays, anniversaries,  thinking of you, weddings and thank you projects.  I knew I wanted to create a project with spring colors and with a shabby chic look.  I’ve recently downloaded the Spring Vintage DSP for My Digital Studio and I thought perfect! Next I selected the perfect coordinating stamp sets, Baby Blossoms and With all my Heart.  The box shape I selected is the Petal Cone.  The shape is perfect for my vintage shabby chic look I had in mind.  The Petal Cone die, Spring Vintage DSP and Baby Blossoms stamp set can be found in the new Occasion Mini.

To add to my spring shabby chic look I embellished with pearls, crochet trim and of course hearts.  The base of the card is Crumb Cake CS, the next layer is Rose Red CS.  The DSP is the Spring Vintage download printed on matte photo paper.  I created the sentiment layer on my card by stamping the frame from the Baby Blossoms stamp set then used paper snips to cut the frame.  I used the SU wide oval punch and then used a tag from the Matchbox die and stamped ‘friend’ from With all my Heart stamp set.  I also used the Eyelet border punch under the crochet ribbon and embellished with pearls.  I created the heart trim at the bottom of the card using the Small heart punch.  I aligned the side of the punch with the previous heart and aligned the bottom of the heart with the line I drew in pencil.  Draw it light so it can be erased once you finish.

The Petal Cone box is Very Vanilla CS and I then printed Spring Vintage DSP on matte paper then put the paper through my Big Shot with Petal Cone die so I could then cut two sides of the triangle.  I cut these out then adhered them to the sides of the Petal Cone.  The Scallop flower is made with the 2-3/8″ scallop circle punch and clear rhinestone brad.

This is my quick and fast method for making the scallop flower.  Punch 6 scallop circles, stack them all together, then pierce the center and use a brad to fasten.  Crunch and fold each layer.  Voilá you have a flower.  There are other methods where you fold each layer and spritz with water before fastening all the layers but I don’t have much patience and my quick method works for me.

I enjoyed making this gift set and I hope it inspires you to take the challenge and create your heart project.

Winter blues

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are celebrating the color blue.  Select any shade of blue or different shades of blue and create a project.  I have been so inspired by the upcoming digital downloads in the spring mini and by MDS I decided to make two projects for this challenge.  Also the spring 2011 mini goes into effect today!  Download your copy or email me and I will mail you one.  You may also visit my website to see all the new items in the occasions mini.

I made an 8″ x 8″ scrapbook page of our furry children.  Like everyone who scrapbooks I’m so behind.  This is one of the many pages I’m creating for them.  I used the Blueberry Crisp digital DSP for the background.  I love the Not Quite Navy and Night of Navy colors which were perfect for photos of my sleepy dreaming pets.  I had so much fun creating this page.

The next project I created is a thank you card I’m sending to my brother and sister-in-law for a wonderful Christmas dinner complete with Yorkshire pudding.  So yummy!  I used the new  Nature Walk digital stamp set to create this card.  The background paper is Blueberry Crisp #5 DSP and I used the birdcage from the Nature Walk digital stamp set all over to create the background.  Being able to create your own DSP is another wonderful feature of MDS.  I love the Blueberry Crisp DSP digital download.  For $4.95 you get twelve different digital paper designs and they’re all gorgeous.  The branch, bird and nest are also from the Nature Walk digital stamp set which will be featured in the spring mini which goes into effect today!  I love the digital downloads because you can order them online and you can download them instantly after you process your transaction.

Another Vintage Christmas Card with My Digital Studio

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a sketch challenge.  The sketch is featured in the December Success SU demonstrator magazine.  It’s an interesting sketch and since I had recently downloaded the vintage brads and crochet ribbon for My Digital Studio software, I had to use them for this project.  I created this card on MDS using my new downloads and Deck the Halls digital DSP.  I love the vintage suite which is available until January 3rd, 2011.  I also added a Soft Suede Vintage Overlay Texture on the Holly DSP to look like sponging.  It’s very subtle but it adds some darkening on the edges.  You’ll need to enlarge the card to see it.  I also used the Tearing Edge stamp set on the Cherry Cobbler layer.  I hope you get inspired to create with My Digital Studio.

My Digital Studio Vintage Christmas Card

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a color splash challenge. The colors Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Early Espresso are perfect for this time of year.

Since I’ve purchased many of the new Christmas digital stamps I was excited to create a Vintage Christmas Card with My Digital Studio. It was so easy and fun! I used the Christmas Collage stamp over Very Vanilla Textured card stock and colored it Cherry Cobbler but brought down the opacity to 20%.  I also used the Early Espresso Wallpaper DSP for the bottom of the card.  The ribbon is from the digital seam binding collection in Cherry Cobbler.  For a fuller bow I put two bows.  Under the ribbon I added two Eyelet border strips in Old Olive and Very Vanilla.  I love the digital Eyelet punch it’s perfect for the vintage look.  I also embellished with pearls from the pearls and rhinestones digital collection.  The tag is the Decorative Label digital punch in Very Vanilla and I outlined it in Cherry Cobbler.  The sentiment is from the digital stamp set Bells and Boughs.  Although the card was created entirely on MDS I think it still has the warmth and feel of a vintage Christmas Card.   Let me know what you think.  I hope you hop over to Hand Stamped Sentiments and take the Color Splash Challenge.  I’d love to see your projects.

Fall Inspiration

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a fall inspiration challenge.  It’s a beautiful photo of  fall in the wine country.  This photo reminded me of the trip my husband and I made in October of 2004.  Of course like a lot of you I’m a bit behind on scrapbooking.  This challenge was perfect for me to start documenting this wonderful trip and use the Autumn Spice digital download in My Digital Studio.  Here’s the inspiration.

Here’s are my scrapbook pages created on My Digital Studio.
