Paris in the Spring

Do you ever get an idea for a project you can’t get out of your head and you have to create it?  Well this happened with an idea to make an Eiffel Tower shaped box using the image from the Artistic Etchings digital stamp set because then I can make it whatever size I like.  I finally decided to create the box for this week’s challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments Color Splash Challenge.  The colors are Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz.  These colors together remind me of spring.

I created the front of the box on My Digital Studio.  I used the Blushing Bride polka dot background and enlarged the Eiffel Tower and colored it Pear Pizzaz.  I then created an outline template of the tower and cut it out.  I made the front and bottom of the box from chip board then adhered the Eiffel Tower image/DSP on the front and trimmed any uneven edges.  The bottom of the box is slightly smaller so the top can fit over the sides from the bottom.  The sides of the box are made from Very Vanilla CS.  I also finished the inside with Very Vanilla CS and grosgrain ribbon.  I plan on creating a tutorial for this box.  As soon as complete it I’ll post it.

For the card I stamped the tower in Versamark and Pear Pizzazz ink then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The card also features Poppy Parade DSP from the In Color  Hostess Level One paper pack.  I embellished the box and the card with buttons created with the Sizzlit Buttons #5 die.  I also embellished with loads of pearls.  I hope these colors inspire you to create a project for spring.

No Stamping Card

This week’s challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is to create a project with dies…any dies.  With the Big Shot I created this card inspired by Sandi Maciver.  I used shabby chic colors again – Rose Red, Crumb Cake, and Pink Pirouette.  The base of the card was created with the Scallop Square die them embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.  The Crumb Cake layer was created with the Circle Scallops #2 die then embossed with the Elegant Lines embossing folder.  The flower was created with the Cherry Blossom Embosslit  and the butterflies were created with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  Embosslits Dies are great because they simultaneously cut and emboss.  Love the Embosslits.  The swirls were created with Swirls Scribble Sizzlits die.

For some shimmer I  smooched the card with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch.  I hope you can see the shimmer.  I love this Vanilla Shimmer Smooch because it’s just the right amount of shine and so easy to apply.  Make sure you use the Color Catcher to prevent your work area from ink overspray.  I then embellished with basic pearls and Victoria crochet trim ribbon.  Very easy card to make.

It’s a great card to demo at workshops because it shows the versatility of the Big Shot.  I hope my card inspires you to get out your dies out and participate in the challenge.

Shabby Chic Spring

My inspiration for this week’s sketch challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is my wish for spring to get here.   It’s a fun pocket sketch and the possibilities are endless.  Since I wanted my card to say spring I decided on a shabby chic card with the colors of the digital Spring Vintage DSP.  I also took inspiration from Tara Bilbao’s quilled roses.  She has a great instructional video on her blog on how to make them.  My third inspiration came fromAnn Schach’s Nature Walk card.  It’s a wonderfully distressed card and since I wanted my card to be shabby chic I started to think peeling wallpaper so I decided to incorporate her distressed look for my card.

I am also entering my card in PPA’s Vintage challenge.  Hop on over to get inspired.

I first printed the Spring Vintage DSP pattern with the kraft background and flowers.  The dotted DSP for the pocket is from the Jolly Holly DSP and the edges are distressed and sponged with Soft Suede.  I embossed a Melon Mambo layer with the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder then tore the layer and sponged with Soft Suede. I made the roses and embellished them with Dazzling Diamonds.  Some of the roses I also lightly sponged with Soft Suede before the Dazzling Diamonds.  I embellished the pocket with the Victoria Crochet trim and also the Scallop Trim border.  I also added pearls to the top of the pocket and on the Scallop Trim border.  My sentiment background is colored with SU markers, stamped off once for a lighter background.  The ‘friends’ is from the Tiny Tags stamp set and ‘friends’ is heat embossed in gold and attached with a Vintage brad.  Please join us for this week’s challenge.  We would love to see your take on this sketch.

Simple Valentine Cards

I created these simple Valentine cards for a class.  These were very easy for my guests and they loved them.  These two-layer cards showcased the Big Shot for the embossed backgrounds.  I love the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and combines well with the Artistic Etchings stamp set.  I stamped the medallion in Riding Hood Red on Very Vanilla CS to make the background.  I then stamped the Eiffel Tower, glued the Red Glitter heart atop the tower and added a bit of Scallop Trim to the bottom and stamped ‘AMOUR’.  I also tore the edges of the Very Vanilla CS and sponged the edges in Riding Hood Red. For the finishing touch,  I adhered pearls and rhinestones to the corners.

For the “Just my Type” card   I used the Texture Plates Kit #4 which I had not used for awhile.  This set has a wonderful typed background which coordinates perfectly with the vintage typewriter image from Puns from the Past and the Newsprint DSP.  I punched the border of the Newsprint layer and sponged the edges in black.  I love the Tiny Tags stamp set and Medium Jewelry punch.  These little tags add so much to any card.  I adhered with the mini glue dots the tags underneath the knot of the ribbon.  I stamped the typewriter image on Very Vanilla CS then punched it out with the Decorative Label Punch.  I also punched another Decorative Label in black and framed the Typewriter image.  I added the Red glitter heart to the top of the typewriter image and the pearls to the corners.

One of my goals this year is to finish the inside of my cards as I did below.  It just looks so much neater and gives you another opportunity to use more images from a stamp set.

Flirty Valentine Corset Card

For this week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments ribbon and lace challenge I created this corset template.  The template is sized to fit into a SU medium envelope (5-3/4″ x 4-3/8″).  I traced the corset on Very Vanilla CS then ran it through my Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and sponged it with Riding Hood Red ink.  I used the 5/8″ Victoria crochet trim as lace.  I put a strip of stick tape on the back of the crochet trim and pleated it as I adhered the trim.  I used my Crop-a-dile Big Bite to set the 1/8″ eyelets and used grosgrain ribbon to lace the corset.  The regular hand-held Crop-a-dile will not work because it doesn’t reach.  You can also use a regular eyelet setter kit.  It was a lot fun creating this card.  The possibilities are endless in creating this card.  You can use different embossing folders, different colored card stock, clear rhinestones and different ribbons.

I create these as invitations for hens night, bachelorette or bridal showers.  Got to my Etsy shop to order and request your custom color.

Isn’t it Romantic

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments there’s a big announcement.  We’ve added five more designers to our Design Team.  We’re so excited!  Please hop on over and welcome them by leaving a comment.  Also we have a wonderful color challenge with the romantic colors of red, black and ivory or white.  You can use any shade of red – Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Riding Hood Red or any other shade of red you prefer combine it with Black Whisper White or Very Vanilla.

I’ve been wanting to make different versions of corset cards and I CASED this corset shape card from Ink Stained Roni.  Hop over to her blog to get the template and other ideas.  The card base is Very Vanilla and I covered the front of the card with the music notes background from the Newsprint DSP and I sponged the edges with Riding Hood Red.  I’m down to a couple of sheets and I must buy more Newsprint DSP.  I’ve also been playing with the Red Glitter paper and I think it’s fabulous.  It’s perfect for adding that touch of bling.  I punched the hearts with the Small Heart punch and I also used my favorite embellishments – Victoria Crochet Trim and Vintage brads.

The candle is stamped with the medallion and flourish from the Artistic Etching stamp set.  I also added a red glitter heart and crochet trim.  Stamping on candles is very easy and there is a step-by-step tutorial on  SCS.  I hope you’re inspired by this week’s color challenge and show us your romantic side on HSS.

I also love the challenges over at PPA so I submitted my project.   There are so many talented crafters that participate.  Check them out.

Spring Vintage Hearts

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a hearts theme challenge.  Hearts are a wonderful shape because they’re not just for Valentine’s day.  They fit right it for birthdays, anniversaries,  thinking of you, weddings and thank you projects.  I knew I wanted to create a project with spring colors and with a shabby chic look.  I’ve recently downloaded the Spring Vintage DSP for My Digital Studio and I thought perfect! Next I selected the perfect coordinating stamp sets, Baby Blossoms and With all my Heart.  The box shape I selected is the Petal Cone.  The shape is perfect for my vintage shabby chic look I had in mind.  The Petal Cone die, Spring Vintage DSP and Baby Blossoms stamp set can be found in the new Occasion Mini.

To add to my spring shabby chic look I embellished with pearls, crochet trim and of course hearts.  The base of the card is Crumb Cake CS, the next layer is Rose Red CS.  The DSP is the Spring Vintage download printed on matte photo paper.  I created the sentiment layer on my card by stamping the frame from the Baby Blossoms stamp set then used paper snips to cut the frame.  I used the SU wide oval punch and then used a tag from the Matchbox die and stamped ‘friend’ from With all my Heart stamp set.  I also used the Eyelet border punch under the crochet ribbon and embellished with pearls.  I created the heart trim at the bottom of the card using the Small heart punch.  I aligned the side of the punch with the previous heart and aligned the bottom of the heart with the line I drew in pencil.  Draw it light so it can be erased once you finish.

The Petal Cone box is Very Vanilla CS and I then printed Spring Vintage DSP on matte paper then put the paper through my Big Shot with Petal Cone die so I could then cut two sides of the triangle.  I cut these out then adhered them to the sides of the Petal Cone.  The Scallop flower is made with the 2-3/8″ scallop circle punch and clear rhinestone brad.

This is my quick and fast method for making the scallop flower.  Punch 6 scallop circles, stack them all together, then pierce the center and use a brad to fasten.  Crunch and fold each layer.  Voilá you have a flower.  There are other methods where you fold each layer and spritz with water before fastening all the layers but I don’t have much patience and my quick method works for me.

I enjoyed making this gift set and I hope it inspires you to take the challenge and create your heart project.

With all my Heart

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have sketch challenge.  I knew I wanted to create a Valentine card because I’ve been itching to use the red glitter paper in the new occasions mini. I also used one of my favorite stamp sets Notably Ornate and my two DSP favs – Love Letter and Newsprint.  Hop on over to HHS and take the challenge.  We’d love to see your projects.

With all my heart Valentine card

I have also entered my card over at Pals Paper Arts.  Their Design Team is so talented.

I knew I wanted to to create a Valentine card because I wanted to use the Red Glitter paper and the Notably Ornate stamp set because I love the frame.  I stamped it and the bird in Basic Black and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I cut them both out with my paper snips.  The dotted heart is from the I {Heart} Hearts set and stamped in Cherry Cobbler and also trimmed with paper snips and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  I framed the heart with the Pinking Heart border.  Kasey has a wonderful tutorial on how to frame with punched borders.

I created the large scallop border with 1″ circles.  I punched the circles from the Love Letter DSP.  I adhered the circles starting from the center so the border would end up even on both sides. The polka dot paper is from the Love Letter DSP and I also used a Newsprint layer.  For that Valentine feel I used the Red Glitter paper.  Love it!!  The sentiment banner ends are punched using the 1-1/4 square punch.  The sentiment is from the With all my Heart stamp set.
