Owl be your friend

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have another sketch challenge from  Stampin’ Up!’s SUCCESS magazine.  We’d love to see your interpretation of the sketch so hop on over to HSS and show us your creation.

For this project I decided to do a digital card using My Digital Studio.  I have just purchased the Two Step Owl Punch – Digital Download, Price: $0.95 and I wanted to use it for this card.  I love this punch and so fun to use.

Since this is a girl owl I decided to use the Cherry Cobbler Wallpaper DSP on the vest and Very Vanilla button latte.  So cute!  If you own MDS don’t forget to update your software with the new colors.  Click here to update your software.

The background is Textured Baja Breeze.  Love the Textured papers!  The Soft Suede distressed background, included with the purchase of MDS, is from the Distressed DSP and the frame is from the Sweet Pea DSP collection.  The Textured and Sweet Pea DSP collections are available as add-ons.  If you don’t have these consider purchasing them.  The price is right and they’ll never retire.  How cool is that!  You can purchase any of the digital downloads even if you do not own My Digital Studio software.  You can use the images with any graphics program that allows you to import images into your document.  The other great thing about purchasing digital downloads is they are available to use instantly as soon as you pay.  I love that…instant gratification.

Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch Challenge #25

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments – a sketch challenge.  Come play and post your interpretation of this sketch featured in the July issue of Success Magazine.  This magazine is put out every month exclusively for SU demonstrators to help us be better demos and to feature fabulous projects.  This is just one of the benefits of being a SU demo.

Sketch ChallengeI’ve been having a lot of fun with my Artistic Etchings, Chic Boutique and All a Flutter stamps.  Lately I have also been using vellum.  This paper is great because it adds a touch of elegance to any project.  I stamped with craft white and embossed in clear the butterflies on vellum and I also took a strip and ran it through the Big Shot with my Polka Dots folder.  I love that looks like lace.  The sentiment from Artistic Etchings and scroll frame are stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with black.  The black card base is smooched with silver.  Click to enlarge the photo so you can see the shimmery silver on black.

Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch Challenge #20

This week’s challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is a sketch challenge so I used the opportunity to finally use the stamp set Pedaling Past and to also participate in Pals Paper Arts color challenge.  The sketch comes from the June issue of Success magazine for demonstrators.  The color challenge at PPA is Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Soft Suede.

PPA 46 Color Challenge - Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Soft SuedeI love this stamp set, Pedaling Past because it looks vintage.  Therefore I wanted my card to look old and distressed so I used the distressing tool on the cutter kit for the edges of  all layers on my card.  I also used My Digital Studio to print out circles with the cog punch.  The cogs and circles are one layer but shadowing on the cogs gives them dimension.  I stamped the bicycle image with black Stazon then watercolored using my ink pads .  I also used the border image and the sentiment from the set and used the Curly Label punch for the sentiment.  All edges were sponged with Soft Suede.  Here’s my hybrid card.

Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch Challenge #16

This week’s Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge is a sketch challenge from the Success May issue.  This magazine is free when you become a demonstrator.  It offers tips and advice on how to run your Stampin’ Up! business and shows wonderful project ideas.  Here is the sketch and my project for this week’s challenge.  I used my Embosslits Die Beautiful Wings, item#118138.  It’s a carryover from the Spring mini catalog.  This die is wonderful because it die cuts and embosses at the same time.  I also used the Scallop Trim corner and border punches.  There’s a very informative video from Stampmonkey and her blog also gives measurements for creating squares and rectangles with these two punches.

Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch Challenge 12

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a sketch challenge that comes to us from Stampin’ Up!’s May issue of Success magazine for demonstrators.  This magazine is packed with ideas and tips for running your SU business and did I mention it’s free.  The colors featured on the sketch are new colors Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Baja Breeze and Very Vanilla.  I love the color combination.  I haven’t received my sample of new colors so I used So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla to create my card.  Post your creation at HSS.

The flower was made with the Flower Layers #3 Originals Die, Build A Flower Bigz Die and the Big Shot using the patterned paper, Old Olive and Pretty in Pink CS.  The center in Taken with Teal CS was punched using SU 3/4″ circle punch.  The flower is held together with a silver brad from the Hodgepodge kit.  The leaves were punched with the large oval punch then curled with the edge of a pair of scissors.

Stamped the flower background with So Saffron classic ink on So Saffron CS layer.

The sentiment stamp was inked with Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip, Taken with Teal markers then stamped on Pretty in Pink CS then punched with the large oval punch.  The Sweet Pea DSP oval was punched with the wide oval punch.  The outside wide oval is askew.  The small flowers were punched from Rose Red CS with the Trio flower punch.  The centers were punched from the lighter color on the DSP with a regular hole punch.  The sentiment was adhered with dimensionals.

Before adhering all the layers to the Kraft card base the Pretty in Pink satin ribbon was adhered.

Hand Stamped Sentiments week 4 – Sketch Challenge

This week at HSS we’re having a sketch challenge.  This sketch is featured in the March Success, Stampin’ Up!’s magazine for demonstrators.  This magazine is one of the freebies you receive as a demonstrator which is a big plus because many projects are featured to give you ideas and it also provides tips on running your business from successful demonstrators.  Right now is a great time to become a demonstrator because the starter kit is discounted 15%.  See my blog entry Sale-a-bration for hobby stampers for more details.   Now on to the project.  As I mentioned we’re having a sketch challenge and I have been wanting to use my new stamp set Picnic Parade.  This stamp set is a hostess level 2 set and can only be earned by holding a workshop with sales of at least $300.  It’s a great value because it contains 15 stamps!  So versatile.  It can be used for so many occasions – Easter, Thank you, Get well, Hello, Welcome…  I had so much fun putting my project together.

First, I stamped the images on Whisper White card stock in Timber Brown StayzOn ink.  I used my SU water color pencils and blender pen to color in the images.  I wanted a soft spring look and the water color pencils provided just the look I was after.

I then used my paper snips to cut out the bunny and the basket.  I used the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch to punch the flower then sponged the edges with Pretty in Pink classic ink.  I also had a scrap from the Bashful Blue soft flower background I printed using My Digital Studio for my Pride and Prejudice card and used this for the center of my extra large Fancy Flower.

Before adhereing the top and bottom of my card to the base I adhered the top and bottom then placed my ribbon before adhering to the base.  I used SNAIL to adhere the large flower on the main image then adhered the bunny and the basket with dimensionals.  The bottom of the card is the  striped DSP from the Sale-a-bration Welcome Neighbor Paper Pad for the bottom of the card.  Stamped my sentiment in Timber Brown StayzOn ink so the browns would match.

That’s it.  Super easy and lots of fun!  I hope you’re inspired to start your spring projects.
